Floor Time Classes are a fun way to help your baby find comfort and support while being on his or her tummy. As well as great opportunity to allow babies to interact with each other, and for parents and caregivers to find community.

Allowing time for babies to be on their tummies for play throughout the day is very important for their development during this crucial time of discovery. This class offers a chance to practice being engaged with your baby in a meaningful and playful way, while they are awake and on their tummy. We learn to problem solve and find ways to make tummy time fun for every baby!

Helping babies feel comfortable and safe on their belly’s can be the solution for many structural issues that can be challenging for babies and their parents. Regular, daily sessions of tummy time can help eliminate flat spots, or bulges on the head, as well as torticollis (preferring to turn head to one side over the other). Along with strengthening the body, tummy time is imperative for motor and social development. These are all issues that we can explore in our class together, as well as just having fun on the floor together.

Exercise Video for Pelvic Instability

This is a very helpful video addressing pelvic pain that can be due to instability, or over firing, of muscles that balance our pelvic floor. We often see this kind of information targeting postpartum women, who often need support! But pelvic instability is an issue that many people face, regardless of if they have given birth recently, or at all. There are so many ways that our pelvis can be compromised by the way we walk, sit, exercise, or by injuries/surgeries. This is meant to be a supportive practice that can help you rebalance. It’s very important to see the right kind of professional for you! to help you understand what may be causing the pain or discomfort, espcially if it has become a long term chronic issue. Chiropractors, Pelvic Floor PT’s, Bodyworkers, Pilates or Yoga Instructors. I hope you enjoy and find some helpful pieces here.

Thoughts post Integral Anatomy Workshop with Gil Hedley

It’s been 2 weeks since I had the honor of exploring human anatomy in the lab with Gil Hedley and my  fellow Somanauts. This was a journey that I could not have fully prepared myself for, nor fully ever return from. The complexity, unity and wholeness of the human body was so apparent during this experience. Seeing, feeling, witnessing the beauty of these forms, still brings tears to my eyes. This opportunity to hold and interact with these incredible life giving tissues, who are always working for us, with us, giving us their best to keep this intricate web of connections in harmony, has brought me to a new depth of amazement and wonder.

Some structures were as I expected them to be, and others were nothing like my vision of them, formed by anatomy books and the sensations I receive through my palpating fingers. But one idea was reinforced, and as I had expected to find, that being the fundamental and deep connection that exists from the tops of our heads, the inner most aspect of our brains, and the very furthest points on the bottoms of our feet! The substrate that underlies these different locations are as one, connected in repetition over and over again throughout these beautiful bodies of ours. As I moved and cut and touched the form I was working with, it was not hard to understand how the experience of our inner word effects the experience of the outer world, or vise versa. Our structures respond to our perception of our environment, our emotional being is our nervous system, and our nervous system spins is fine webs through every tissue that forms us. To address our structure, we must include our feelings and our thoughts. The more we find ways to accept ALL that we are, the more we can allow our being to find coherence and balance.

I’m deeply touched and grateful for the opportunity to be on this path of exploration and healing. Thanks to each of you for taking a step down this path with me as we continue our journey in our beautiful forms. Many blessings!

With love, Andrea

“Hit the Reset Button in Your Brain”

I just read this great article in the NY Times referencing the latest neuroscience concerning our multi-tasking/split attention modern lifestyles. With phones by our sides throughout our days, we are tasking the attention regulators in our brains with a heavier work load then most of us had… say 10 years ago. In my work as craniosacral therapist, I offer a chance to “hit the reset button” during a session. The most exciting part though, is this reset doesn’t have to be facilitated by a session! Together we can re-orient your nervous system to finding your reset button throughout your day, and forward on in your life to come!

Here’s a link to the article if your interested:

I just returned from an amazing Infant & Maternity Craniosacral Conference hosted by Carol Gray in Portland!

I’m feeling so refreshed and inspired after spending 5 days with my colleagues from around the world, including members of  my gifted community here, in the bay area, whom I work with offering our FREE INFANT CRANIOSACRAL CLINIC every month (more information is posted below, on this page). We shared and learned together how to continue to serve Mom’s and Babies through our hands-on craniosacral practice!

I was blessed to hear presentation on breastfeeding and tongue tie by respected lactation consultants Alison Hazelbaker, PhD, IBCLC, FILCA, CST, RCST and Melissa Cole, IBCLC, RLC. These women are on the cutting edge of this issue and generously shared all of their clinical experience and current research on the topic.

An amazing presentation was given on Torticollis & Plagiocephaly – Breastfeeding Impacts, Treatment Plans & Prevention Strategies, by Michelle Emanuel, OTR/L, CST, NBCR, CIMI; Carol Gray, Midwife; LMT, Alison Hazelbaker, PhD, IBCLC, FILCA, CST, RCST.

I also had the honor to experience a profound presentation by Etienne Peirsman on the beautiful process he uses to meet babies and help them resolve tension patterns in their systems.

A presentation on baby wearing and the most developmentally safe carriers on the market by Tanja Martinson, LCBE, brought me a lot more information to share with my clients when they are trying to make the best choice when purchasing this equipment for their new babies.

Lisa Gillispie, BSW, LMT, CST, CPT-RES (who’s alignment video is posted below on this page), shared with us some of the most recent understanding of alignment and how it effects us in prenatal, birth, and postpartum comfort and healing.

Those are just a few of the names I’m dropping out of shear excitement and gratitude to have had the opportunity to participate in this wonderful event, and bring all of this back to my work here with all of you- my lovely clients!

An interesting article from the NYTimes about Sleep, Brain Health and Cerebral Spinal Fluid

There is so much exciting information coming to us from the neuroscience world, and the research about the importance of sleep is growing. This a quick article that explains what happens to our brains and the flow of cerebral spinal fluid when we are sleeping. The connection to craniosacral therapy is in the ability, during a craniosacral session, to slow the nervous system down to a sleep state, and use gentle techniques to aid in the bodies natural process of cleansing the body, and particularly the brain. Hope you enjoy, and contact me if you have any questions.
